So many treasures are hidden Lord:
When we gave thanks along with the mother whose 2 sons were saved by the actions of a stranger, Reis Leming, in East Anglia in 1953, we were not to know that one would became a professor in Cambridge, England; the other a professor in MIT. Lord, we look at the carnage in the Gaza strip; the downing of MH17 – with experts traveling to a conference about HIV/Aids – and we want to cry out for the waste, for we will never know the greatness of our loss.
What had you intended for these people, my Lord? What had been your purpose for the uneducated, the “superfluous” the unwanted children. We demand answers from you for the crisis in;-
drug resistant diseases;
the funding for UN refuge feeding centres in Africa;
the missing discarded plastic in the oceans;
and never know who is missing with possible answers.
As we pray for the future of:
the people of Mosul, Iraq;
those dealing with the Taiwanese plane crash;
the Indian families devastated by losing children in a school bus / train crash;
migrant children from Central America entering the United States.
We are not called to tell the story of “what if …” or to know how the future might have turned out. We called to rejoice with you when the lost is found.
And if we are called to find the wonderful in the everyday, we are also called to pay the price for it. To pay the price of equality, justice and mercy which is fair shares for all; enough to eat but not too much; peace that all can discover their own potential; education that we might discover answers.
And so, we give thanks:
as the UN moves to investigate the violence in Gaza, for the Palestinian Christians who open their churches as shelters.
for the brave doctors and nurses fighting the ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone
for the arrival of Marian Ishaq in Italy
You gave us so many great gifts and we are only too prepared to not see, understand or use them. Prepare us now, to find, hear and be your answer. May it be so.
