World News This Week In Prayer – Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014

The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
their voice is not heard;
yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
Psalm 19:1-4

You know how long, Creator, I have been fascinated by the idea of each star and planet vibrating in praise of you, pouring out songs of praise and thanksgiving.   And, I revel in the assurance that when I lack the words to say I know my voice, along with that of the whole creation, is still heard.

As experts and others meet in London, England to discuss how best to cope with the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and beyond we wonder how best to pray: for care workers; for families unable even to offer the comfort of touch to those who are ill; for researchers; for politicians.

We have no words to say:
Hear our voice raised in prayer.

For the people of California in the United States. with no respite from the drought

We have no words to say:
Hear our voice raised in prayer.

For the people of Bolivia, where the legal age for children to work has been lowered to 12; especially the miners of silver in Cerro Rico, as their president seeks a third term in office.

We have no words to say:
Hear our voice raised in prayer.

For the people of Hong Kong in their quest for freedom of choice in leadership.

We have no words to say:
Hear our voice raised in prayer.

For the people of the middle east as the Turkish parliament vote of the way forward in the conflict with IS.

We have no words to say:
Hear our voice raised in prayer.

For the people of Japan as the death toll following the unexpected eruption of Mount Ontake rises.

We have no words to say:
Hear our voice raised in prayer.

Lord, as our voice goes out to you, may your voice be heard in all the earth.

Amen
