World News This Week in Prayer- Thursday, November 5

God of love, God of inclusion, God of justice and peace, we come to you with hearts heavy with the things that are happening in our world over which we have no control. Lack of control is scary, feels threatening. And yet, even in the midst of our confusion and frustration, there is a truth which we can affirm, a truth to which we cling:

There is nowhere God is not.

Even as threats are made against Muslims at Virginia Tech in the U.S., even as we continue to look at those different from ourselves with suspicion, even hatred, we continue to affirm:

There is nowhere God is not.

Even as a militant group affiliated with ISIS in Egypt is claiming responsibility for the downing of a Russian passenger plane that crashed in the Sinai peninsula, even as we weep for the families of all those needlessly killed, we continue to affirm:

There is nowhere God is not.

Even as we learn of the deaths of forty-two elderly people in a bus-truck collision near Bordeaux, in France’s worst road crash in decades, even as we grieve for these dear people, we continue to affirm:

There is nowhere God is not.

Even as we hear of the major earthquake which has struck a remote region of northeast Afghanistan and Pakistan, killing more than 200 people, with the death toll expected to rise; even as we are ever aware of those affected by drought and floods, by fires and famine, we continue to affirm:

There is nowhere God is not.

Even as we wonder and question, fret and doubt; even as we search for God’s active presence when God sometimes seems so far away, we continue to return to the incredible truth, to affirm- even through our weeping and wailing-

There is nowhere God is not.

And so, God of love, God of inclusion, God of justice and peace, we your often-confused children reach out to you from our darkness, seeking for light, seeking for hope, seeking for signs of your presence, as together we continue to affirm:

There is nowhere God is not. Amen and amen
