Lord, we thought the human world had turned a corner in the pandemic, so we watch and listen with despair at the news from India and pray and hope the same will not happen in Papua New Guinea.
Lord, mighty and marvelous, what is happening?
We name especially Yemen, Haiti, Syria, South Sudan and Tigray, Ethiopia but recognise that a quarter of the human world, the part which relies most on humanitarian aid, is being plunged into greater need and greater famine as the pandemic exacerbates shortages and stockpiling.
Lord, generous and gracious, how can this be?
We wait the outcome, as the G7 foreign and development ministers meet in London, as elections take place in Britain and are continuing in India.
Lord, compassionate and caring, when did we turn into such political beings?
With the world’s attention elsewhere, in Myanmar, Afghanistan, Columbia what is happening to Palestine and human rights in Israel? Remind us we are all human together.
Lord, creator and creating, why do we forget you made us?
We saw in horror the bridge in Mexico collapse, the fatal stampede and crush of worshippers on Mount Meron, Israel, the flash flooding in Tarim, Yemen.
Lord, awful and omniscient, you do not need us to tell you these things but we need to tell you so that we can be your hands to do the work, praying hands and mouths and minds to hear and be your answers in our human world.
Lord, Creator God, you give us reason to be thankful:
for the announcement that the latest ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo has been contained;
for the support and care given by knitting in love for the Warm Baby Project, Uganda;
for the hard work of those sewing to seek an end to menstrual period poverty* especially for
refugees;
for the announcement that Tanzania has put in place coronavirus measures;
for the news that Australia has retreated from the decision to jail it’s citizens who return
from India;
for the challenge by European companies to Brazil’s Land Rights act;
for the laughter caused by “sign wars” in Listowel, Canada.
Laughing Lord, marvelous, generous, compassionate and creating, these are our prayers.
Amen
