As we stand with Jesus in the wilderness during this Lenten period, we pray for the whole world.
For those fighting cancer: may they have support and access to quality medical care.
For parents: may they be confident in their childcare and schools.
For pregnant women and for those who are trying to build families: may they be granted strength.
For children who are abused, neglected, or fostered: may they find love.
For those without homes: may they find hope.
For entrepreneurs: may their work improve our world.
Creator God, we look to you for answers in our wilderness.
We pray for families who grieve without bodies to bury:
- In Oso, Washington, U.S., where a sudden, catastrophic mudslide on Saturday destroyed about 30 houses, temporarily damming a river and leaving a square-mile field of muck and debris in its wake.
- In Southeast Asia, where Malaysia Airlines flight 370, carrying 239 people, crashed into the Indian Ocean.
Creator God, we look to you for answers in our wilderness.
Be with political leaders as they affect turmoil:
-
In Venezuela, where three generals were arrested for plotting an uprising against the government. The arrests are the latest development in nearly two months of political unrest, which have cost the lives of at least 32 people.
-
In the Ukraine, where Russian intervention is testing several fundamental norms of world politics. The crisis challenges established principles of sovereignty and nonintervention, and it elevates the principle of nationality over citizenship.
Creator God, we look to you for answers in our wilderness.
Guide us as we seek deeper peace and broader grace. Give us strength and courage to love. Be our companion in the wilderness. Amen.
