Our prayer is for ourselves, complicit as we are in humanity.
We pray for the humility to admit that we understand, sometimes participate, in the sins of humanity:
- the sin of tribalism that sets Turk against Kurd in mortal combat,
- the sin of denial that tries to reduce the horrors of the Holocaust to verbal etiquette,
- the sin of pride that claims a special first place for a nation or a person,
- the sin of false witness that condemns others irresponsibly.
We pray for the grace to celebrate the accomplishments of humanity:
- the amazing discovery of a satellite lost for years,
- the creation of an interface between Wikie, a killer whale in France, and human beings,
- the discovery of tools in India, so old our view of our own species’ history must change,
- the elimination of cancers by injecting a pair of drugs reported from Stanford University in the United States,
- the learning that dependably occurs when resourced and encouraged.
We pray for the courage to be allies:
- to fulfill the possibilities of each of your children,
- to protect all of your world,
- and to share the blessings of your care.
Amen
