Creator of the Stars of Night,
On the eve of Epiphany,
on the eve of the first full moon of the year,
on the eve of the funeral of Pope Benedict,
hear my prayer for the tomorrows of our world.
The USA needs to elect a speaker of the house so that congress can be sworn in, legislation can be considered, and committee assignments can be made. Guide the process so that an election brings forth a speaker who will lead with focus on what is what is right, what is just, and what is liberating.
In China families need a more lifegiving path through the pandemic. COVID cases are surging since they abandoned their radical lockdowns for no restrictions at all. Inspire leaders to institute precautions that slow the surge and enable life to resume without oppressive lockdowns.
In Southern Mexico, your beloved, whom we know as migrants need asylum since the United States continues restrictions used to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants who have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. Shine a light on the humanitarian crisis of migrants and refugees playing out around the world. Inspire those with the means to help; to act.
Protesters in Iran continue to fight for “Women, Life, Freedom,” and for doing so, are being killed, imprisoned, and rushed through sham trials. Harness the hearts of those who would strip these young resisters of their life, their freedom, and their dignity and move them to stop the violence and find a way to a freer society.
In Mogadishu, Somalia, two car bombs detonated by al Shabaab militants, killed at least 35 people, including 8 members of a single family, and wounded 40 more. Comfort the stricken and lead us all into a world where peace replaces war; where life is valued above all, where peacemakers lead and swords are beaten into plowshares, where tomorrows are secure, and where we study war, no more.
