Psalm 18:28 – Thou lightest my candle. The Lord my God enlightens the darkness.
Dear Creator and Comforter,
Oh, how we need your light and sustenance.
We are reminded of the Holy Family that took flight 2000 years ago, and of the many exiles and refugees of today; we are reminded of the lowly and of the mighty.
We ask that all paths tread lightly upon this blessed earth; that all who take breath and labor find haven under the stars and cultivate the practice of peace and gratitude.
Our tears of grief fall in so many parts of this world. Families and nations are burdened by such loss and disbelief that again innocents are murdered in Turkey at the Reina nightclub in Istanbul. Wrap these families in your peace that passes all understanding. Sustain the caregivers, police and rescue workers that bring such courage and caring to their work.
Comfort the spirit of the Karen peoples, many of whom are Myanmar refugees in camps along the Thailand border, who eke out their lives, dependent on foreign aid, many in deep despair, with some pregnant women driven to suicide gutepotenz.de. Abide with them in their homes in these camps and borderlands and guide us to find effective solutions to the chronic displacement of people.
Sustain the 283 Somalian parliamentarians as they take their Oath of Allegiance. Give them wisdom and clarity and unity of purpose as they move forward in establishing a permanent constitution and ensuring that vacant seats reserved for women are filled by women.
Bring your winds of strength to the Shuar peoples of Ecuador as well as NGO’s as they defend their Right to Associate and speak out on human rights. Give the Government of Ecuador wisdom of discernment in protecting environmental and indigenous rights. Guide the rethinking of decrees 16 and 739 which would silence the voices of already marginalized peoples.
Oh God, the Eternal I Am, you who listen to those too feeble to speak, too crushed by fears and worries, those forgotten and deeply alone; may your Holy Spirit descend upon them and upon we who intercede in prayer, nourishing and binding us all with your great love. Amen.
