Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name.
Lord, Creator of the world, the time has gone when we can glibly say we are sorry for the way we treat the beautiful world you have given us. Following the Climate change report, ‘Code Red for Humanity’ of 9th August 2021, and the Water and Climate Change Conference in Namibia on 11th August 2021, we know that apologies are no longer enough. You give us the intelligence to understand, hands with which to work, skills to enable us to survive. Give us the will to do the work required and political leaders who no longer posture and claim empty promises.
Creator God, you are there.
Lord, Creator of the world, we hold before you those threatened with wildfires across the North American continent, across southeast Europe, and across North Africa. We pray for those who have lost everything; for those who offer everything in the fight to contain them and for those neighborly souls who support them all. We praise you for the gift of neighbors.
Creator God, you are there.
Lord, Creator of the world, we hold before you those threatened with unseasonable, unexperienced heavy rain and floods and for the multiple rescue agencies who make these their concerns. We praise you for the gift of forward planning.
Lord, Creator of the world, we hold before you those threatened with drought, famine, and malnutrition and for the response of those who realize that stockpiles are unnecessary and who distribute from their abundance. For the people of Tigray, Ethiopia; for the people of Madagascar. We praise you for the gift of those who look beyond themselves.
Creator God, you are there.
Lord, Creator of the world, we wonder – what happened? As the Covid19 pandemic continues we hear that the Marburg virus is now, again, active in Africa. Lord, what happened to universal health care and safety. We praise and thank you for the gift of those who practice medicine and travel the world to do so; for those who research new ways to diagnose and new forms of treatment. Especially this week we give thanks for the news that AI (artificial intelligence) may be able to bring speedy diagnosis to possible dementia sufferers.
Creator God, you are there.
Lord, Creator of the world, we pray for the peoples of Afghanistan as conflict fills their world. We pray especially for the vulnerable, those poor, unable to find work, the children, especially girls being taken as young as 12 by the Taliban for sex slaves. We praise you for the peaceable, the peacemakers, and peacekeepers however difficult their work becomes.
Creator God, you are there.
Lord, Creator of the world, how excellent is your name in all the world. May it be so.
