Merciful One, it is not for us to judge those who have died. Rather, we come to you with the assurance of your great compassion. We unite with these wounded brothers and sisters of ours and believe that you draw all to your forgiving heart. May the love we bear be encouragement for all souls winging their way home to you. Thank you for your unconditional love for all you have created. Amen.
Inspired by these words of Sr. Joyce Rupp, we join believers who pause every first week of November to pray for the souls of the deceased, particularly those lost in the last 12 months. The World in Prayer community lifts up those killed in political and religious violence in the last week:
For the estimated 1,000 Palestinians who died in Gaza last weekend, as a result of the beginning of a ground assault ordered by the Israeli government…
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the 740 Russians and Ukrainians lost in war during the siege in Avdiivka, Ukraine last weekend…
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the three Jehovah Witnesses who died in serial bomb blasts at prayer meetings in Kerala, India on October 28…
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the six people who died in election clashes between rival political groups in Filipino elections on October 30…
Lord, hear our prayer.
Grant we pray, O Lord, that your departed servants, for whom we have prayed, may pass over to a dwelling place of light and peace. Amen.
